The Ingres VectorWise project is a collaboration between open source database leader Ingres, VectorWise, a spin out from the leading database research team at CWI of Amsterdam, a research institute in mathematics and computer science, along with ongoing support from Intel. VectorWise created the first-ever database engine that succeeds in unleashing the performance potential of modern computer hardware.

Over the years, hardware capabilities have jumped by leaps and bounds - the performance of modern processors has improved tremendously and the amount of system memory has increased significantly. This has created a situation where hardware has become limited by the capabilities of software. The Ingres VectorWise project unlocks the power of modern chips and will usher in a new era in innovation that leapfrogs existing technologies.
