I've downloaded TERM for UNIX/Linux. How do I install it on a Linux system?

  • In the instructions below, change <termfile>.xxx to the actual name of the file you've downloaded from Century.

If you've downloaded the ".rpm" (TERM for Linux) file:

  • Login with root access and go to a shell prompt.
  • Copy the ".rpm" file to a temporary directory.
  • Execute the following command:%rpm -i <termfile>.rpm

If you've downloaded the ".tar.gz" file:

  • Login with root access and go to a shell prompt.
  • Copy the install file to a temporary directory.o Unzip the download file: %gunzip <termfile>.tar.gz
  • Uncompress the .tar file: %tar xvf <termfile>.tar
  • Change to the directory created by the "tar" command: %cd term_6.28.1754_SCO
  • Execute the following command: %/bin/sh ./install
  • Depress <Enter>
  • Select the type of UNIX or Linux from the menu
  • Depress <Enter>.
  • Depress <Enter> again.
  • Select option 1 for a 30-day evaluation, or option 2 to enter your serial number and activation key.

How do I uninstall TERM for UNIX/Linux?

Answer:

If you installed from the ".rpm" file:

  • Login with root access and go to a shell prompt.
  • Execute the following command: %rpm -e <termfile>.rpm

  • Login with root access and go to a shell prompt.
  • Delete the /usr/term directory.
  • Delete the following files from /usr/bin: callin, callout, and term
  • Delete the .termsys file from each user's home directory.

How do I setup a network-based connection to a host?

Answer:

  • At the system prompt, type "term setup" and depress <Enter>.
  • If prompted, select "Current User Defaults".
  • From the Setup Options menu, select "Communications".
  • Select "Telnet:" from the Connections menu.
  • In the "Node Name" field, enter the hostname or IP address of the remote host.
  • Depress Ctrl-E to return to the Setup Options menu.
  • Select "Terminal" from the Setup Options menu.
  • Press the space bar to select the correct emulation type.
  • Depress Ctrl-E to return to the Setup Options menu.
  • Select "Save Settings". Press any key when the save is done.
  • Select "Return to TERM" to connect immediately, or "Exit to system" to return to the prompt.

How do I setup a direct serial connection?

Answer:

  • At the system prompt, type "term setup" and depress <Enter>.
  • If prompted, select "Current User Defaults".
  • From the Setup Options menu, select "Communications".
  • Select "Async" from the Connections menu.
  • In the "Communications Port" field, enter the device name for the serial port.
  • Using the space bar, change the "Baud Rate", "Parity", "Wordlength" and "Stopbits" settings to the correct values.
  • Depress Ctrl-E to return to the Setup Options menu.
  • Select "Terminal" from the Setup Options menu.
  • Depress the space bar to select the correct emulation type.
  • Depress Ctrl-E to return to the Setup Options menu.
  • Select "Save Settings". Press any key when the save is done.
  • Select "Return to TERM" to connect immediately, or "Exit to system" to return to the prompt.

How do I launch TERM for UNIX/Linux?

Answer:

  • At the system prompt, type "term" and depress <Enter>. The connection you configured earlier should come up automatically.
  • For a network or direct serial connection, depress <Enter> to get a login prompt.
  • For a modem connection, type "ATDT" and the remote phone number, then depress <Enter>.
