Stopping the CenLPD service so you can uninstall TinyTERM Plus

Question :

I need to uninstall TinyTERM Plus, but I can't uninstall NetUtils. CenLPD is running, and I need to stop it before uninstalling.

Answer :

CenLPD runs as a service on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. Only a user with administrator rights can stop the service so it can be uninstalled.

To shut down CenLPD, do the following:

  • Right-click on the "hammer-and-wrench" icon in the task bar. This will be next to the system clock.
  • Select "Stop CenLPD" from the pop-up menu.
  • Right-click the icon again, and select "Exit."

Once this is done, you should be able to uninstall NetUtils.

Question :

I did that, but the service is still running.

Answer :

If the above steps don't close the CenLPD service properly, you'll need to do it from Control Panel.

  • ON Windows NT or Windows 2000, click on Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services.
  • On Windows XP, click on Start | Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative Tools, and then double-click Services.
  • In the list of services, double-click CenLPD.
  • Click the Stop button, then click OK.
  • Close the Services panel. Uninstall will work normally after this.
