Resolving an Error - 115 during a NetUtils Installation

Question:

When installing the NetUtils portion of TinyTERM, I receive an error that says "An error occurred during the move data process -115."

Answer:

This error is generated by the InstallShield install program when it is unable to copy one or more files to your computer. There are several different causes for this problem.

The first thing to do is empty your system temp directory. This directory has a size limit on the amount of data that it can hold. If it is too full, TinyTERM's installation files won't be able to expand in the directory.

If emptying your temporary directory does not help, then the problem is likely that a DLL TinyTERM needs to replace is loaded into memory, and the operating system will not allow the install to overwrite it. In this situation you will need to copy the contents of the TinyTERM CD to your hard drive, then boot to Safe Mode and run the installation. The following are instructions on how to boot to Safe Mode :

  • Restart your computer.
  • When you see the text "Starting Windows..." (or similar, this will be right before you see the Windows splash screen), press your F8 key.
  • You should get a menu. Choose the Safe Mode option and press Enter.

This will boot you to safe mode. In this special diagnostic mode, Windows loads a minimal set of drivers which should not include the DLL that is causing the problem with your TinyTERM installation.
