If you want your users to leverage Xythos to its full potential we have just made it even easier. Xythos Drive for Mac brings content management to the familiar Mac desktop environment and allows users to work more effectively with files of all types with an improved overall user experience.
Xythos Drive for Mac is optimized for document management providing advantages over the built in Mac WebDAV client to safely edit documents on the server. By mapping a shared Volume to a Xythos server the user is able to integrate the Desktop with the Xythos Server. Adding, viewing, managing, and editing files in the familiar Mac Finder interface and a common Mac application such as TextEdit or MS Office 2008 becomes simple. Users no longer have to save edited files locally and then upload changes – eliminating extra steps and time.
Easily map a shared volume
Xythos Drive for Mac brings files stored in Xythos directly to your desktop by mapping a shared volume and giving you the power to work and collaborate more quickly and effectively. Users can create mappings to all the areas they use in their everyday work and name them for easy identification. After setting up Xythos Drive, users can work directly from the Mac OS X desktop, or the Xythos Web Interface – the choice is theirs. Tight integration allows users to automatically map a new shared volume when opening a file from the server even if the volume is not already set up.

Xythos Drive for Mac allows you to work more effectively in the applications you use every day. You can easily open, edit and save your files as you normally would while instantaneously saving them back to the Xythos server. No extra steps necessary to easy, secure file management.
Easy collaboration
Email tickets and intellittach are some of Xythos clients’ favorite features when it comes to fostering collaboration without emailing attachments. The Xythos Drive gives Mac users the ease and convenience to open files and edit directly from email links, tickets, intellittach, or wherever the link may appear in a file. Auto locking improves the collaboration experience by preventing multiple users attempting to edit the file at the same time. For users who collaborate and edit files as part of daily work activities, this saves significant time and headaches.
Prevent data loss when editing files
Xythos Drive for Mac was designed with document management in mind, realizing that it is more than just the file contents that is important – it is also metadata, versions, logging, permissions, and tickets. Application Filter technology handles common application behavior when opening and saving files common in other WebDAV clients (such as the native Mac OS X Finder WebDAV client). For example, editing a MS Word Document in the Mac WebDAV client would result in the original file being deleted and replaced by a new file. With this comes the lost of metadata, versions, permissions, tickets, workflows, etc. Xythos Drive for Mac has proprietary Application Filter technology to prevent loss of critical metadata for documents.
Access to advanced features from desktop
Xythos Drive for Mac integrates with the Services menu in Finder to allow access advanced features in the Xythos EDM/DL Web view Interface for a file in Finder. This allows accessing a files manage page, subscriptions, access logging, or permissions in the web view, as well as copying the file URL to the clipboard for pasting into desktop applications.*
Improved data protection and security
Because Xythos Drive makes files stored in Xythos more available to users, it helps organizations better account for their digital assets. The familiar Mac folder environment allows users to safely access and save their files to Xythos EDM/DL just as if they were using a LAN. Secure access is available using industry standard SSL to protect data over the wire.
