Datamatics Opts for Ingres Worldwide

Datamatics Leverages Open Source Technology and Ingres Database to Expand Business Support Systems (BSS) Portfolio and Underpin Core Business

Ingres Corporation, the leading open source database management company and pioneer of the New Economics of IT, announced today that it has agreed to a strategic worldwide partnership with Datamatics Global Technologies GmbH, a globally active provider of innovative and sound technologies and business IT solutions. In preparation of leveraging the powerful Ingres VectorWise technology, Datamatics will expand its BSS portfolio and migrate its core applications to Ingres Database.

Ingres VectorWise is one of the most significant database technology innovations of the last 20 years and meets broad business demands to analyze the exploding volumes of data. It uses uniquely innovative technologies to unlock the superior capabilities of modern computer hardware. In the BSS sector, Datamatics has already exhaustively tested Ingres VectorWise and successfully achieved performance increases of up to 10x - and in one case, even up to 70x - over its existing database from a leading manufacturer.

"The collaboration with Ingres is crucial to us. First, we have achieved an enormous performance increase: when we ported a business application to Ingres VectorWise, we were astounded by the substantial performance increases of up to 70x," said Michael Thuleweit, managing director of Datamatics Global Technologies GmbH. "Furthermore, Ingres offers an outstanding 24/7 support model, as well as extremely flexible licensing, which covers everything from SaaS through to pay per subscriber models."

Within the framework of this partnership, Datamatics has expanded its BSS portfolio and migrated its core solutions to Ingres Database, including its main applications in the 'Order to Cash' sector and 'DSS Document System Solution' for template-based mass document generation. Datamatics' solutions cover all automated business processes, from client registration over order processing, through to receipt of payment. Datamatics chose Ingres Database based on its sophisticated support model and, above all, its scalability, availability and support for many different platforms. Furthermore, with an open source business model, Ingres helps enable Datamatics to offer its customers cost-effective solutions for reduced time-to-market, standardized IT processes and business expertise.

Ingres Database was designed for use in mission-critical enterprise-class environments. It offers impressive high availability and high-volume transaction processing capability, as well as multi-platform support and maximum security for business-critical software solutions. Ingres also supports a wide range of integrated development environments in order to promote software programming built on its database.

"We are aware that our customers are increasingly tired of paying for Big Software prices so we are always on the look-out for more cost effective solutions. With Ingres VectorWise, we get the best of both worlds; we can now offer our customers a lower cost and better performing analytic database," continued Thuleweit. "Furthermore, Ingres places great emphasis on the word partnership and is extremely pro-active: from the very first discussions, to the successful proof of concept creation, right through to the partner agreement and daily collaborations."

In the future, Datamatics will also be making its Ingres-based solutions available to its ISV and SI partners and actively assisting its solution partners with their switch to open source.

"With Datamatics, we are happy to welcome yet another strong market player into our partner community," said Bertram Mandel, head of global alliances & partners and managing director, Ingres Germany. "Datamatics' powerful Order-to-Cash solutions are extremely attractive to customers in a whole range of sectors, including telecommunication and media, power supply, financial services and e-Commerce because its offerings enable them to concentrate 100% on their core businesses."
