Ingres and Univention Sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement
Leading Open Source Database is Checked, Tested and Certified for Univention Corporate Server (UCS)
FRANKFURT & BREMEN, Germany - September 7, 2010 - Ingres Corporation, the leading open source database management company and pioneer of the New Economics of IT, announced today it has entered into a strategic agreement with Univention, a leading provider of Linux infrastructure solutions on the German speaking market. The first result of this collaboration is the possibility to combine the powerful and highly reliable Ingres Database with Univention Corporate Server, an operating system used as a platform for IT-infrastructure and management.
With the combined approach, customers will have confidence that interaction of the two solutions will be completely reliable and operate smoothly with each other. Furthermore, the collaboration of the two open source solution providers also benefits customers in terms of support, since the support-teams work closely together and offer customers one unified point of contact for assistance on the combined solutions.
"Open Source depends on collaboration – and not only at community level. Companies increasingly expect their software suppliers to provide bundled and integrated complete solutions," said Bertram Mandel, vice president of sales and services and managing director, Ingres Germany GmbH. "We are therefore delighted to be able to go to market with this joint high performance open source solution approach which meets this demand perfectly."
Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is a Linux-based open source operating system for servers in mission-critical business and governmental use. In addition to the operating system, UCS provides a pre-configured identity and infrastructure management system, which supports a simple, central location and cross-platform administration of the company IT via a web-based interface.
Ingres Database is designed for use in mission-critical enterprise-class environments. It offers impressive high availability and high-volume transaction processing capability, as well as multi-platform support and maximum security for business-critical software solutions. Ingres also supports a wide range of integrated development environments in order to promote software programming built on its database.
"Ingres and Univention are focused on the same goal: the promotion of open source solutions for business use that easily match the performance, availability and user friendliness of proprietary solutions but clearly exceed in cost effectiveness and flexibility," said Peter H. Ganten, founder and CEO of Univention, commenting on the partnership. "Partnerships with other open source software manufacturers, such as Ingres, allow us to offer with our partner companies a far wider range of solution scenarios."
Ingres subscriptions for UCS are available through certified Univention partners. This is just the start of the collaboration between Ingres and Univention. The companies are already planning a more powerful open source solution stack, which supports integration of different appliances.
